God Bless John Kerry

I've never been a fan of the guy, but he just gave the best speech of his career-- he was heartfelt and sincere and struck exactly the right notes of unity and healing.

Oddly enough, John Edwards's "the fight has just begun" speech was both inappropriate-- the 2008 campaign could wait for another day-- and poorly delivered; it sounded insincere and rushed. Edwards may be the better politician; I've long thought he'd even make the better president. But Kerry is the better loser.

I agree. And it's important that we all agree to some ground rules these next years. The side that loses the election should congratulate the side that wins it. (For example, I will be buying John the cheapest item on his Amazon WishList that I can get away with.) After this, the side that loses the election is the loyal opposition.

The talk from John Thune and Tom DeLay about "the obstructionist minority" is really the rottenest of any post-election thinking. The Democrats have lost, but they represent around 48% of the country. They'd be abdicating their responsibility to just roll over and vote for any bill or nominee Bush and the GOP leaders send them.

The worst part of these last four years was not the partisanship in congress, after all. That's not what made it uniquely awful. It was that half the country thought the president was not legitimately elected and a surprising number doubted whether their votes would count. That's over now, and the Democrats should (and will) stop talking about Clinton as the "last elected president" and go back to being as vigorous in opposition as Newt Gingrich was in 1993-1995.

Why do democratic presidential candidates wait until their concession speech to sound human?

You asked for it

This proves that if you amass the largest campaign war chest in the history of the world (built by special interests and big business); if you have a media that doesn't report things people need to know; and if you're willing to lie with impunity and run the kind of dirty campaign unprecedented by an incumbant - that you can frighten, intimidate and fool *just* enough people to squeak by with the help of voter supression efforts.

For those of you that still don't get it -
I and the rest of the people in this country who fought desperately to remove Bush from office weren't fighting a campaign of our candidate versus theirs, our party versus theirs or our agenda versus theirs; we were fighting to save the country. Today, we're not upset because John Kerry lost and democrats lost seats in the House, we're not sorry that hate bills passed in 11 states; we're sad because our country is on a runious path down the road to a frightening place. We're mourning for America. We're sad for every person, every family and every community, red states and blue states alike.

So you asked for it. George Bush now has four more years to run this country into the ground. When it's all over - when the deficits are impossibly high, when our military has been driven to exhaustion and the world views us with contempt - then it will be up to us to pick up the peices. Congratulations on your victory. You asked for it.

Anonymous, in case you haven`t figured it out, YOUR side is the guilty party. YOUR side amassed an enormous war chest from dirty special interests like George Soros, Michael Moore, Moveon.org etc. YOUR side were the ones who benefited from a free pass by the press (Who NEVER brought up Kerrys near treasonous involvement with the North Vietnamese, earning him a plaque in the hall of heroes in Hanoi, his involvement with the nuclear freeze movement, who underreported the Swiftees, underreported his war protest activities etc.etc.) YOUR side launched attack dog Michael Moore, called Bush a liar and idiot and murderer. Voter suppression? Oh,Please! You jackasses stuffed every ballot box in every city in America. You probably stole 2 million votes! What a hypocrite you are!

WE are the ones fighting to save America. YOU fought for your political gain. You guys are treasonous thieves who care more about stealing money (via taxation) from other Americans to stick in your own greedy back pockets than you do about the security of our land. You people are shameful.

The World will thank us for what we are doing. History will hold YOU in contempt. Your beliefs will go the way of the dynosaur, and rightly so. Enjoy the dustbin of history.

Hey Tim,

It's clear you live in a sheltered world so surrounded by rigid thinking that you are able to fabricate a reality all your own. For instance:

The world already holds *you* in contempt, *right now*. If you really need evidence of this, perhaps your eyes are really shut too tight to make out the growing wave of contempt we face.

Deficits are heading into the stratosphere, and cutting taxes just won't help. But you don't understand that, do you?

*Right now,* our military is stretched paper thin, dying a little bit every day, and desparate for recruits from an ever shrinking pool of desparate kids.

And finally, the big one: even though you are incapable of seeing it, the last four years have been a *disaster* for our country.

I'd like to finish by saying that your party, which stands for hate, fear, and deceit, built its electoral dominance over 40 years by building a massive, well-funded message, training, and media machine. We started putting ours together last year. So the battle may be over, but the war is only begining. I'm going to stay here in NY because this is my home, not go to Canada. I'm going to be here in 2008 when your sad, sorry excuse for leadership *can't* lie himself into the whitehouse anymore; I'll be here when his supreme court appointees die off, his legislation reversed, and his hateful, greedy agenda exposed for what it is. There is no stopping progress no matter how much bigotry you spread, no matter how many votes you surpress and no matter how many honest, working people the neoconservative agenda can fool into thinking you are on their side.

I'm sure you'll counter this with more childish paranoia of how the progressive movement has the media for a mounthpiece, how big business just pours money into our campaigns, and how we secretly steal votes right out from under your nose.

You needn't bother, I'm not interested in reading it.

You also will be here for the next four years, and you'll see this nation go further and further down the moral, fiscal and diplomatic drain.
But you won't *see* it. You'll keep blowing your horn and banging your same old drum until we "steal" our next victory.

I hope you're proud. As I said, you asked for it.

Holy crap, he took the name "Birdnow" and made a pun! I'm fairly certain this has never occurred before.

Yes I am proud, anonymous, and you show yourself for exactly what you are. You don`t care about the truth. Your is the party of ``hate, fear, and deceit`` and that is why you guys keep losing. You offer nothing positive for the country. I have a suggestion for you; take your post, hold it up to a mirror and look at what you see. You accuse others of that which you are most guilty. Again, enjoy the dustbin of history.

Oh, I forgot to congratulate you on your rapier wit and swiftian satire; I haven`t hear birdbrain since 3rd grade!
