I hope this act will not make Britain or the West craven as it did Spain. I hope it makes us understand that we are in a total war with an insane ideology with which there does not appear to be compromise.

I hope this strengthens rather than weakens our resolve. I am not optimistic. Democracies engage far too much in wishful thinking.
