Harriet! Har-ee-et...

I assess the newest Supreme Court nominee in today's AmSpec column.

Lots of us share much of your view, but I do not believe for a moment that Bush would nominate someone whom he has known so well for so long who would become a wishy washy liberal type. I just dont think that is in the cards although no one can be 100% sure of any nominee..often their views change. I also think it is a POSITIVE that she was once a democrat but has modified her views, much as I did 35 years ago.

By the way, I heard David Gergen (who somehow is passed off by the media as being "centrist," I suppose because he worked for some Republican presidents), say that the problem is that she is a "crony." I think that is where the left will go with this one. I have if anything more confidence that Miers will be ok than I do about Roberts.

If for some reason Miers isnt confirmed I would go with someone like Janet Rogers Brown and use the nuclear option. The left has been asking for this.
