Oscar Forecast
My predictions:
Best Picture - No Country for Old Men
Best Original Screenplay - Diablo Cody, Juno
Best Adapted Screenplay - Paul Thomas Anderson, There Will Be Blood
Best Foreign Language Film - The Counterfeiters
Best Documentary Feature - No End in Sight
Best Director - Joel and Ethan Coen, No Country for Old Men
Best Cinematography - Robert Elswit, There Will Be Blood
Best Actor - Daniel Day-Lewis, There Will Be Blood
Best Actress - Ellen Page, Juno
Best Supporting Actor - Javier Bardem, No Country for Old Men
Best Supporting Actress - Cate Blanchett, I'm Not There
Several of these categories -- Picture, Adapted Screenplay, Director, Cinematography -- are No Country for Old Men vs. There Will Be Blood showdowns. I'm betting they'll split them, though it wouldn't surprise me to see No Country take Cinematography and Adapted Screenplay or even for Blood to take Best Picture. Julian Schabel could also sneak in and snag the Director statue.
While Juno's a lock for Original Screenplay, Ellen Page could lose out to Julie Christie, who played a woman with Alzheimer (the Academy loves stuff like that).
UPDATE: I got seven out of eleven right -- not too bad. Here are the winners.
